FireScope Service Insight uses NetFlow, sFlow and Port Mirroring to listen to network activity and identify the endpoints of critical IT services. From these endpoints, Service Insight follows the transactional flow through downstream dependencies such as application servers, database servers and external web services. As these service dependencies are mapped out, the solution automatically applies best practice monitoring across the entire service stack, from user experiences to applications, to virtual infrastructure and the underlying network.

Additionally, the solution supplements its dependency discovery with five additional built-in discovery engines, effectively offering a hybrid approach of both passive and active discovery methods. Network discovery identifies the assets that may not be contributing to a critical service, but are still vying for network, storage and compute resources. Topology discovery identifies the physical interdependencies between servers and network devices. API-based discovery for VMware, NetApp, Cisco and others then provide a map for the virtualized resources running between your physical infrastructure and application stacks.

CMDB and Incident Management Integration
Native integration with many popular CMDBs enables the solution to automatically populate service dependencies via web services and seamlessly update this documentation as new service are deployed, VMs are decommissioned or other infrastructure changes are discovered. Additionally, as FireScope monitoring identifies service-impacting events, the solution can generate incidents in many popular Service Desk solutions, populated with extensive information regarding the incident that arms Service Management teams with everything they need to know to quickly initiate effective remediation procedures.
