The 2008 InformationWeek Start-Up of the Year award is a 'reader's choice' award format, where InformationWeek readers cast their vote for three of their favorite tech startups. Eligible companies include those who were profiled over the past year in InformationWeek's Startup City blog or interviewed on Startup City TV. The top six startups selected will then get five minutes to present their business case in front of more than 200 CIOs and other senior IT executives and a panel of CIO judges. Participating startups will focus talk on a required set of pain points IT professionals are struggling with today, and they'll be judged on the answers they provide. A winner will be selected by the editors of InformationWeek, taking into account the reader's survey, and named at the InformationWeek 500 conference in Monarch Beach, California September 14 through 16, 2008.
